Voices On Steel On Ascension
Botswana - Ascension Day 2006 will long be remembered in the calendar of the Methodist Church in Botswana. This public holiday in Gaborone saw the Women’s Auxiliary Group stage a fund-raising Prayer Breakfast in an effort to bolster the institution’s expansion. Specially invited guests were the pannists of Rainbow High School Ensemble who teamed up with the church choir. The musical combination of voices and steelpan was, indeed, a novelty for the gathering and definitely a first for Botswana. The performance left the audience in awe.
Among the pieces rendered by the choir and the young pannists were:-
We shall overcome
Amazing Grace
Kum Ba Ya
O when the saints go marching in
The music was so infectious that the audience joined in dancing and singing which signaled the closure. It was indeed a memorable occasion.
