RAINBOW SHINES AT
FETE DE LA MUSIQUE - Botswana

Rainbow High School Steelpan Ensemble

Botswana, Africa - Rainbow High School Steelpan Ensemble hit the road recently with its mokojumbies (stilt walkers) in trail in their début performance at the 2005 edition of “Fete de la Musique”.

The event saw Botswana join over one hundred (100) other countries worldwide in celebration.

The musical extravaganza hosted by Alliance Francaise and the French Embassy was held at Botswana Craft in Gaborone. Excerpts were carried live on local radio Gabz FM.

Rainbow with its group of enthusiastic and vibrant pannists and mokojumbies wowed the audience with their carnival type entry to the stage – dramatic, rhythmic and colourful.

According to Sashi Jaddoo, chief organizer, “besides being an international success this social phenomenon promotes democratization of the access to artistic and cultural endeavours.

There were over two dozen or so groups with around 280 artists performing. These, apart from Rainbow High School included – Koitrans, Extra Melody, Letsatsi Dance Theatre, Cuban tropical Dancers, Masilo & Abraxas, Duncan Senyatso, Gaborone Music Society, Mogwana traditional Dancers among others.
