New York- When you add Mario Canonge on piano, Michel Alibo on bass, Jean-Philippe Fanfant on drums and Andy Narell on steelpan you end up with Sakésho.  Sakésho is one of the premičre groups to come through Lincoln Center's 2006 "Out of Doors" summer concert series.

Andy Narell of Sakésho on steelpan

As early as an hour before the scheduled 6:30 pm start, the plaza was already buzzing with anticipation.  The seats began to fill quickly as Sakésho went through it's sound check. Sakésho was in the house and a crowd accustomed to great performances knew it.  The North Stage placed between   the Julliard School of Music and the Metropolitan Opera House, with the Lincoln Center Library and Theater serving as a back drop, provided an interesting acoustical and visual setting for this mid-August summer evening performance.

Sakésho did not disappoint the audience.  They ran through an entertaining hour-long set that featured songs from the group's CDs on the Heads-Up label that, in addition to showcasing their world-class musicianship, also highlighted the special blend of their music.  Moreover, the audience was treated to their unique brand of Jazz with a French Caribbean twist.  They opened their set with a song written by Narell called "Laventille."  Laventille is a village in the Caribbean island of Trinidad,  where the people's genius have contributed greatly to the development and popularization of the steelpan instrument.  From there on the audience was taken on a fantastic musical journey which featured elements out of the jazz, blues, African and Caribbean experiences.

The Lincoln Center Out of Doors celebration is in its 36th season and has presented over 100 different free events: world music, internationally-acclaimed dance, cutting-edge performances, special events, cool jazz, and fun for all ages.  The 'Spirit Of The Blues' at Lincoln Center Out Of Doors is the theme for this season.
