Harmony Steel Launch
Pan Lights Up Central Brooklyn

New York - The US Independence holiday fireworks started early as Harmony Steel Orchestra hosted the second major steelband launch of the New York season at their home base St. Matthew's Church.  Hundreds of steelpan music fans descended on the St. Matthew's grounds to get their dose of live music as the steelbands' stage sides squared off and presented their new repertoires.

Performing Sunday afternoon into the evening were Ambassadors, Dem Stars, Sonatas, CASYM, D'Radoes and hosts Harmony.  The audience was treated to multiple performance rounds by the orchestras.  Pan fans and aces openly discussed the bands' performances and sound quality.  On this night reigning New York champions Sonatas were the talk of the town as they showed that they know how to take advantage of having just about the best sounding instruments in New York - an integral part of their success - in addition to dropping a completely new and varied repertoire that captured the imagination and spirit of the audience.  Their arranger Yohan Popwell was on hand to give guidance.  Clearly, Mr. Powell in his sophomore year with Sonatas, continues to leave an extremely positive signature on this group.  The organization's confidence level is extremely high as it sets its sight on defending its Panorama title in 2005.

It should be noted that all of the orchestras at Sunday's affair delivered performances which were admired and enjoyed by the majority of pan lovers present.   In general the event was very well patronized and appears to have been a very successful band launch for Harmony Steel Orchestra.
