Australia - The second Australian Schools Panorama was
held on October 22nd 2005 in Sydney. and involved Over 150
children from 7 different schools participated in the event.
Pan is just starting to be recognized in Australia. The
Panoramas are raising public awareness of this instrument and
the capabilities of the steel band. The judges this year
placed both the Rvesby Revellers (playing Penny Lane) and MENAI
MAGIC PAN (Love is in the Air) in first place.
The NSW Schools Steel Band
Association 3 years ago, to encourage schools in Australia to
start steel bands. There are now seven schools involved
and many others are showing interest in developing bands of
their own. NSW Schools Steel Band Association organizes
opportunities for the bands to perform in public - at music
festivals, fetes, educational events, etc.
The steelpan
instruments used are both imported from Trinidad, and made in
Australia by Stan Brown and by Charles Moller .
