In
February of
2004
WST broke bread
with one of
our esteemed
members of
the
When Steel Talks
global
steelband
family, the
legendary
Desperadoes
Steel
Orchestra.
Hailing from
Laventille,
Trinidad -
Desperadoes
invited
WST to capture
one of their
final
panyard
performances
as their
group of one
hundred and
twenty players
-
practiced
before
taking the
stage for
that year's
steelband
music
panorama
competition.
The tune is
'Whap! Cocoyea'
- the
arranger is
the late
great Clive
Bradley.
Enjoy this

Almost
one year ago,
Dominica was the toast of
the steelband music world as
they hosted and participated
in the OECS Junior Steel Pan
competition. It was a
thrilling experience as
youth steelbands from all
over the Caribbean came
to Dominica to participate in
the event. Here is a video

Toronto
- Miyumi passed away on March
14/2007 succumbing to her
illness with cancer. Miyumi was
a dedicated Teacher and Educator
working with the Toronto
District School Board and a
member of Pan Fantasy for the
past 20 years. She was a
devoted educator who advocated
for the steelpan and steelpan
programs in the Toronto school
system. She thought that all
students could learn and
insisted on getting the best
from everyone of them. She was
a long-standing member of the
pan community at large, a good
friend and a professional
colleague. Miyumi was also a
devoted mother and wife Miyumi
Lisa is survived by her husband
Ivory, and her two loving
daughters Nayo and Kioni.
