Pan Down Memory Lane & Pan in the 21st Century Preliminaries

Preliminary Round of judging of Pan in the 21st Century/Down
Memory Lane competitions commence with the Single Pan
category on Friday 04th in the Northern region and
culminating in the East on Tuesday 08th April 2008.
Conventional Band category will start in the North on
Wednesday 09th April ending in Tobago on Sunday 13th April
2008.
Like in previous years, bands will be judged at their
respective yards or venues.
Both defending champions, Scrunters Pan Groove and Silver
Stars have signaled their intent to retain their titles.
Scrunters Pan Groove will be playing the C&W classic
“Country Road Take Me Home” sung by John Denver, while
Michael Jackson’s “Bad” is the tune of choice for the
Tragerate Road band.
Thirty two (32) Conventional Bands and 25 Single Pan Bands
will face two separate panels of judges in one of the most
keenly contested competitions on the pan calendar.
Pan Down Memory Lane is open to all financial Single Pan
Orchestras whereas Conventional Steel Orchestras will be
judged in the Pan in the 21st Century competition. The
latter must play tunes selected from the contemporary world
beat repertoire/styles and the arrangements should be
innovative, creative and in a different manner than is
normally done in the typically Panorama music format
Single Pan Bands must play a non-calypso tune in calypso
tempo for the competition. Allotted playing time in both
competitions must not be more than six (6) minutes.
This year’s bands’ selections cover a wide range of music
genres. These range from R&B to Country & Western to Popular
Music. Some of the tunes include: “Umbrella”, “Man Eater”,
“On Broadway”, “Overjoyed”, “Isla Bonita”, ”Doctor Love”,
“Quando Quando Quando”, “Caribbean Queen”, “ We Just Don’t
Care”, “Love Theme”, ‘Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” and
“Rhythm of the Night”.
From the Preliminary round, twelve (12) bands from each
category will be selected to go forward to the Finals carded
for Saturday 19th April, 2008 at the Queen’s Park Savannah,
Port of Spain. Showtime is 6:00 pm. Tickets priced at $100.
will be available from Crosby’s North & South, Cleve’s, Pan
Trinbago Head Office and at the Savannah on the day of the
Show.
