New
York, USA
-
So it is that time of the year again.
The time of year when, like the
monitoring of a growing teenager,
we get to see the telling notches of
growth, progress and success up
against the wall - for CASYM Steel
Orchestra. At last, it is the annual
Christmas Show at the Brooklyn Museum.
CASYMITES,
CASYMITES,
CASYMITES - little
ones, big ones, tiny ones, munchkin ones
and the soon-to-be ones all over the place.
Bright-eyed, exuberant, articulate and
intelligent - CASYM’s past, present and
future come together at this
annual presentation with a bang to showcase the
organization’s ‘success’ and continuity,
to the community it serves and the
global onlookers.
CASYM showcased
its educational and cultural programs
that are designed to foster the
development of youth.
Adoring
parents, teachers and students coalesce
around the steelpan instrument every
year at this time to showcase the power
of the steelpan in education, culture,
personal and community development.
This year was no different. The
Brooklyn Museum auditorium was packed
with folk
standing on the side looking
to get in.
Class 1, Class
2, the CASYM Dancers, the CASYM Steel
Orchestra and others made the evening
complete by validating CASYM’s
twenty-six year commitment to community
empowerment and development through
their performances and educational
process. Indeed, the instructors
of CASYM programs are all college
graduates who
themselves went through the CASYM
program.
How does one
judge or measure success? Is it
appraised by the wealth that you have
accrued? Is it quantified by the awards
and proclamations you have received?
Can it be measured by the stories
and memories people have about you?
Or is it simply the path and legacy that
you have left behind for those who
follow you, to succeed themselves?
CASYM Steel
Orchestra has all of the above.
While the organization may not have
financial wealth it has
positively touched many,
many lives through its music
education programs and performing
orchestra - providing its members and
affiliates a wealth of information and
experiences they will cherish for
the rest of their lives. Ultimately one
measures, success and progress through
the forward movement of your children.
