“The Bradley
Years”
The
Bradley Years represent the definitive collection
of steelband music arrangements and performances
for a large steel orchestra. This collection
showcases seven classic arrangements from the
master arranger Clive Bradley. Bradley
is considered to be the best steelband music
arranger ever by many, including his peers.
In addition, the arrangements are performed
by one of the finest steelbands in the world,
New York’s Pantonic Steel Orchestra. Clive Bradley
had a very special relationship with Pantonic.
This orchestra clinched the title of panorama
champions five times in seven years - performing
Bradley’s musical works. The performances
were captured by Basement Recordings days before,
and in one instance, mere moments before they
took the stage for the prestigious annual steelband
music panorama competition.
The recordings
capture, reproduce and present an unrivalled
clarity with sonic realism, of a large steel
orchestra fielding between one hundred and one
hundred twenty musicians - unlike any other
steelband music recordings in its class.
This body
of musical work is a sterling addition for all
fans, educators, players, historians and fine
music collectors.

- “To the young female panists reading this who
are dreaming of becoming involved with the
steelpan as a career I say, “Yes, please do.
There is room for you.” I think the only
limitations on steelpan start with the
individual holding the views. Don’t be afraid to
pick up steelpan as a career at home or abroad.
Be prepared to work hard and be creative, but
most importantly, have fun. You can be a
composer, a conductor, an arranger, a musical
director, a solo or group performer. You can be
part of the administrative and managerial teams
which help organize and develop the art form if
being a part of the mostly musical aspects seem
daunting.”
She is a millennial. Bright, articulate,
intelligent, witty and funny - and did we say
multitalented. Equally at home with a video game
as she is with a pan... The pan DNA looms large
inside her through the genes passed on to her
through her Mom. In an exclusive interview with

Just in case you haven’t heard, Duvone Stewart

the illustrious Renegades Steel Orchestra. And
from our perspective, in 2019, Duvone Stewart

name now resides in a place that is time-honored

one of only thirteen men who have walked the
planet, and to have won a minimum of two
Panorama Championships.
Duvone Stewart is a profound
asset to the international music community - and
not to mention, a national treasure to Trinidad

He is perched to be a driving
force in the global steelband music community.
And as such his genius must be, should be and—if
he remains on this path—ultimately will be

Let Tobago host a
Panorama final
Pan Trinbago boss
suggests splitting medium, large bands
|
Trinidad
& Tobago, W.I. -
Long before she created history in becoming the
first female president of Pan Trinbago on
October 28, 2018,
Beverly Ramsey-Moore had a sense of what to
expect.
Almost two decades before, at
her first official
Pan Trinbago meeting in 2001, she had
observed the organisation was not being run in a
manner befitting its status as the world's
governing body for the steelpan.
"I realised the organisation
was being run like a parlour or an informal
group," Ramsey-Moore told Sunday Newsday as she
reflected on her first few months at the helm of
the organisation.
....Said Ramsey-Moore: "The
entire country should benefit from the joys of
Panorama. They must benefit from that love and
community spirit that the pan drives. We have
the single pan finals in the east, the small
band finals in the south and the medium and
large in the north at the (Queen's Park)
Savannah.
"I believe that because the
finals goes
until three o'clock in the morning, which is
the
medium and large, I think we can separate it
and take one of the categories, perhaps the
medium, to Tobago. We believe that national
support in Tobago will come in a massive way
where we will be able to raise more revenue,"
she added.

Just The Facts: The
Difference Between Large & Medium Steelband
Categories - That ‘Share’ Button
Venture Capitalists
+ Steelband Categories - NOT! |
Global -
Just the facts - the difference between Large
and Medium National Panorama Finals where it is
key: in the minds and hearts of the People, the
all-round supporters of the art form. And what
does it mean for the future of Panorama?
It has been just over four days since WST (When
Steel Talks) put up the results for the Large
and Medium steel orchestras and there is a
sizeable difference in the most visible of stats
- ‘Shares.’ 2.3k for the Large steel orchestra
results and 645 shares for the Medium band
category. That’s a sizeable difference - the
volume for the interest in medium competitors
shares is a mere 28 percent of those for the
bands which were in the large category.
Regardless of how one chooses to look at it,
those are very stark and powerful stats indeed.

Finals Results for MEDIUM
Conventional Steel Orchestras - Trinidad &
Tobago National Panorama 2019 - Sixth
Consecutive Title for the Pan Elders/Duvone
Stewart Collaboration!
|
Global -
Ultimately it was [again] the year of the
combination of Pan Elders Steel Orchestra and
champion arranger Duvone Stewart, keeping firm
hold of their 2018 success, and now making it
their sixth consecutive title in the medium band
category. This unbeatable collaboration had it
'in the bag' from the first stage of
competition, as Pan Elders led the pack after
the preliminaries and semi-finals this Panorama
season, before 'formalizing' their win on finals
night.
....But there were nine medium co-competitors
who made it clear that having come this far,
they were not going to go down without a good
brawl, musically-speaking. And so it was that
just before 7:30 p.m. last evening, Saturday
March 2, that the first of only two bands from
the sister isle - Katzenjammers Steel Orchestra
(led by Pan Trinbago president Beverley
Ramsey-Moore) - sounded the first notes in the
finals of the annual Panorama.

Exodus will not be a part of Carnival

first time in 37 years, the St Augustine
steelband will not be in the city.
Management got the sad news

the trailer Exodus uses for the band and as such
was not granted the licence needed to put the

‘First-timer’
T&T Defence Force Steel Orchestra Romps Away
With Title, Trophy, Prize Purse
|
Trinidad
& Tobago, W.I. -
The small steel orchestra front-runner from the
preliminaries and semi-finals held on and
continued its winning ways in last evening’s
(February 28) finals, and triumphed over its
thirteen challengers, copping the title. But the
2019 champion T&T Defence Force Steel
Orchestra is a “first-timer” in ‘name’ only,
somewhat - being world-renowned as a military
marching band, performing in countries around
the world. Competing in the Single Pan band
category in previous years, it is, however, the
first time for the band in this, the
conventional steel orchestra arena. And, they
landed with a splash, eventually dethroning
title defenders Golden Hands Steel Orchestra in
the process; the latter came in third. For its
competitive transition, T&T Defence Force Steel
Orchestra chose an ‘oldie’ by “Bally” - Maxi Dub
- and had secured the musical services of
multi-champion arranger Duvone Stewart; and the
rest, is, as they say, history.
