The Garden will
reverberate with the sounds of steelpan music.
In June this year, Pan Trinbago, the
World Governing Body for the Steelband will host the World Steelband
Music Festival Finals on June 19 at The Madison Square Garden,
Manhattan, New York, at 4:00 pm..
Trinidad & Tobago has given the Pan to
the rest of world but in “the spirit of continuous improvement”, Pan
Trinbago has taken the World Steelband Music Festival Finals to New York
City. This will definitely increase the visibility of the Festival and
the national instrument of Trinidad & Tobago.

is a Festival with a difference. This festival is the signature event
in the steelband world. It is seen as a sophisticated, world-class
festival in which only the best participate. It provides a showcase for
the Steelpan, the only acoustic musical instrument invented in the 20th
is targeting local and foreign pannists, pan enthusiasts, music lovers
and visitors, both local and international. Pan lovers and musicians
everywhere are the target market..
The WSMF 2005
will be held at New York’s Paramount Theater which has the capacity to
hold 5600 people. The event is expected to reach an audience spanning
from the Caribbean to the Americas to Europe, both in attendance at the
“concert” as well as television, radio broadcast and internet.
For several hours, music lovers will be
invited to witness the mastery and excellence of the Steelpan by some of
the world’s top steelbands.
The staging of such
a prestigious festival in New York City positions it appropriately for
Trinidad & Tobago’s brand image. The festival’s aim is to showcase the
diversity of the instrument.
* The creation of a pan event with a
level of international recognition.
* The creation of self-funding that will
generate income for the Organization.
* Providing quality international
exposure to the steelband, both through attendance at the concert by
foreigners and Caribbean nationals and negotiating broadcast agreements.
