CASYM, or the Caribbean
American Sports and Cultural Youth Movement, founded in 1983 by
William
Jones, with
assistance from Bernice Moses, Earl Alleyne and Hayden Davis is an extraordinary group of young people from Brooklyn who perform
on steel pan instruments not only the music of the Caribbean Islands, but
also classical music that matches the standard of a full symphonic
orchestra The members of this group are part of an organization which
promotes diversity and excellence among young people, and their awesome
talent makes for an uplifting and exciting educational demonstration! Can
be tailored to any age!
Last
June, CASYM celebrated its 20th anniversary with a gala awards
presen-tation at the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
The band has earned accolades in
national and inter-national competitions. The CASYM Steel Orchestra, headed
by arranger Arddin Herbert... Look for CASYM's CD this
summer...
