Dixieland Steel Orchestra |
Tobagonians must still be dancing
jigs of joy as two of their orchestras make it into the
final round of the medium band category in the 2007
Trinidad and Tobago national panorama.
Dixieland and Katzenjammers claimed two of the eight
positions up for grabs tonight in the semi-finals which
took place at the south-western end of the Queen's
Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.
Katzenjammers occupied fourth place with 269 points,
while Dixieland fended off all thirteen of their fellow
competitors and muscled their way into position one with
just five points more at 274. Dixieland came
into this competition with legendary arranger Len
'Boogsie' Sharpe at the helm, and playing De Fosto's
Pan Lamentation.
Surprisingly, depending champions
Sforzata, winners in 2005 and 2006, found themselves in an unaccustomed position
of 5th place
with a score of 268. However, a win this year would give
Sforzata the hat trick, elusive in any category. The
entire line up of bands moving onto
the Saturday February 17th finals are: Dixieland, Sound Specialists of Laventille, Silver
Stars,
Katzenjammers, Sforzata, Harmonites, Pan Glow and Arima
Angel Harps.
