PAN LAMENTATION FOR PANORAMA 2007

De Fosto’s “Pan Lamentation” may be the tune of choice at this year’s Panorama but four songs from Crazy’s repertoire have found favour with the steelbands ie “Sharing Licks”, “One Foot Cock “,“Band From Space” and “Pan Music Sweet”.

At the close of registration, fourteen (14) bands opted to perform the Winston Scarborough (De Original De Fosto Himself) composition.

Running second in terms of popularity is the Len “Boogsie” Sharpe/Anthony Alexis’ “Sharing Licks” sung by Crazy with ten (10) plays while Sparrow’s “Doh Back Back” and Robin Immansah/Gary Dore’s “Johnny” vocalized by Colleen Ella & Taxi are the tunes of choice of four (4) bands.

Other tunes in the mix include “Spirit of Carnival” composed by Mark Loquan sung by Denyse Plummer, “Sugar Boy” by Patrice Roberts, “Band From Space” composed by Amrit Samaroo and sung by Crazy, “One Foot Cock” sung by Crazy, “Can’t Get Enough” composed by Alvin Daniell/Don Clarke and sung by Eunice Peters with three (3) plays each.

Other favourites among the bands are “I Dare You”, “What I Want”, “Soca Is It”, “We Love Carnival”, “Free Up”, “Ah Tell She’, “Lorraine” and “Tiney Winey”.

Preliminary judging for Conventional Bands in this year’s Panorama will take place in panyards and venues across Trinidad & Tobago over the period Thursday 25th January to Tuesday 30th January. Judging begins at 7:00 pm .

At the end of this exercise, 44 bands ie 14 Small, 14 Medium and 16 Large, will move onto the National Semi Finals which will be held at the Queen’s Park Savannah west, Port of Spain. Starting time is 9:00 am

On the other hand, Single Pan Bands in all regions will face the adjudication panel between Thursday 25th January and Wednesday 31st January in the preliminary round. Their semi final round will be held at Victoria Square on Saturday 10th February.

For the purpose of the competition, participating steelbands may select and perform any calypso (whether from the current year or any previous year), as long as the same composition has not been played by the said band in a Panorama competition.
