LYRICS

Verse 1
Panorama is a special time of year
For steel band players
(Woy yoi yoi, Sweet pan, aye aye aye)
Practicing day and night to get everything
Right for Panorama
Everybody start to play all de sweet sweet pan
Inside de panyard (Woy yoi yoi, Sweet pan, aye aye aye)
Now is the time to prove we are number one
So come let we jam!

We going and jump and prance and get on real bad
(in de yard, in de yard)
Play de pan, Play de pan, Play de pan!
(in de yard, in de yard)
Look de iron man jammin’ in de rhythm section
(in de yard, in de yard)

You wanna play, I wanna play, You wanna play, I wanna play
I wanna play, I wanna play, I wanna play, I wanna play!

Chorus
Pan in de panyard, woy yoi yoi, everybody jumping up
Pan in de panyard, aye aye aye, everybody prancing up
Pan in de panyard, woy yoi yoi, everybody whining up
Pan in de panyard, aye aye aye, everybody jumping up

One, now it's time to get ready
Two, the judges waiting there for we
Three, count the tune Mr. Panman
Tell everyone that this band is number one

We jammin, jammin,
We groovin, groovin,
We playing, playing,
Tell everyone that this band is having fun!

Verse 2
When you see a man with a hammer in he hand
He is the tuner

Brent Holder

The Port of Spain Police Youth Club in Trinidad was the first place that Brent Holder started playing the steelpan instrument from the age of eight.  The club entered many School Steelband Music Festivals and it is with them that Brent first tasted victory in 1991.  He would also perform with Potential Symphony, Blue Diamonds and Renegades Steel Orchestras at Trinidad and Tobago’s annual National Steelband Panorama competitions.  He stayed with Renegades for eight years, developing his pan playing artistry and was became a member of the Solo Pan Knights Steel Orchestra for a few years before he immigrated to the United Kingdom. He is no stranger to competitions and composing, and has tasted success as a steelpan soloist performing his own compositions, placing both first and second in multiple national festivals and BAS (British Association of Steelbands) festivals between 1995 and 2002.

Brent has arranged for Solo Pan Knights for their 1999 Point Fortin Borough Day appearance and the band placed second.  In the United Kingdom, he has been one of Ebony Steelband Trust’s in-house arrangers and during his tenure with them, before he decided to set up his own gigging steelband, CSI (Caribbean Steel International Steelband), which he formed in 2002 to perform at corporate events, wedding receptions and birthday parties.  Additionally, he has orchestrated the creation of the CSI Steelband Trust in 2008 as part of CSI’s development cycle.  Since then his band has been developing in leaps and bounds.  Playing Brent’s musical arrangements, CSI Youth Steel Orchestra has won the UK BAS/CAPCA Junior Panorama competition consecutively for the last three years, and in June 2010 they were also crowned the Dutch Junior Panorama Champions.

For the past few years Brent has been and still is - a steelpan music educator in several British educational institutions.  Now, this composer- arranger-educator has at last found time in his busy schedule to compose his own tune - Pan in de Panyard - for panorama.  Penned for the 2011 Panorama season, Brent also wrote the lyrics.  The idea behind the tune is to give people who do not know - insight into how steel bands get ready for panorama.  Produced by Junior ‘Ibo’ Joseph, Pan in the Panyard will be CSI’s Panorama tune for 2011 in the UK National Panorama competition.
