Born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, Dane began his musical career at the age of 7 at his grandmother’s home. One of his earliest influences was his uncle Steve who was an active member of the Trinidad All Stars Orchestra. Dane practiced with his uncle every evening after school and in 1982 earned his place in the Trinidad All Stars Steel Orchestra. He became a member of the Panazz Steel Orchestra in 1992. He was also a member of his primary and secondary school band. Dane also plays the congas, bongos and timbales.

As a student of music, he excelled in his field and today is considered one of the best steel band players in the world. He has participated in numerous competitions including the Trinidad and Tobago Panorama and Ramajay. He placed third in the Pan Music Festival of 1988.

Dane’s determination to perpetuate the art form of steel band music took him to Europe, Japan and many cities in the United States.  He performed with many world-renowned musicians such as, George Benson, Lord Kitchener, Xtatik and the Mighty Sparrow. He has also performed on the Sunshine Awards.

Dane Gulston’s talent, skills and craftsmanship are synonymous with quality. His untiring determination to build upon what the early pioneers have started is his way of paying tribute to those unsung heroes. He has earned his respect in the music industry. He is also currently recording his own CD.

Dane has also partnered with young, premier artists in Trinidad and Tobago like Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin and his Asylum band and Shurwayne Winchester.

Dane’s collaboration with soca prodigy Machel Montano has taken him to the world-renowned Madison Square Garden stage where he performed alongside Montano in an historic concert that showcased the music and culture of Trinidad and Tobago. His partnership with the effervescent Bunji Garlin and the Asylum band came at a time when the band was in the throes of incredible success with its front woman, Fay Ann Lyons, who created history in the 2009 carnival season, by walking away with three major competitive titles. In similar fashion, Dane performed with Shurwayne Winchester during the height of his career when Winchester snatched up three coveted titles in one year, making him one of soca music’s most decorated artists.

A long-time panist with the celebrated Trinidad All Stars Steel Orchestra, Dane performed as a front man with the band the year they became the first steel orchestra to walk away with the one million dollar prize!

Dane, who formed part of a contingent of performers representing Trinidad and Tobago at their first appearance at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, continues to thrill audiences around the world. He is regarded as one of the most skillful, entertaining and sought-after Pan men of the 21st century
