LYRICS

Verse 1

The Mozart of Pan start
Since the age of three
Dey does call him Boogsie, Boogsie
He “Sharpe” with his hearing naturally
Dey does call him Boogsie, Boogsie
Perfect pitch, perfect switch
Sharing licks, with dem sticks
Music in his blood in every way,
I want you know
Blessed by the Almighty
His name was chosen - Boogsie, Boogsie
Boogsie Sharpe, Boogsie Sharpe,
Boogsie Sharpe

Chorus

He “Sharpe” like de Tenor, sharper than dat, he “Sharpe” like the Bass, sharper than dat
He “Sharpe” like the Guitar, sharper than dat, Boogsie in your face
The Tchaikovsky, the Beethoven
Jamming sweetly, the Mozart of Pan

To arrange for seven steel bands
Nineteen eighty-eight so successfully
That ain’t easy, that ain’t easy
That ain’t easy
They does call him Boogsie, Boogsie, Boogsie, Boogsie, really “Sharpe”

Verse 2

Like a Pan Messiah
With this inner guided light
Dey does call him Boogsie, Boogsie
Possessed with music every day and night
Dey does call him Boogsie, Boogsie
That’s his name
His mother said from in her womb
He used to kick up when he hear a tune
Like he wanted to come out and play
He could not wait
He was ready since a baby,
Ready for the name Boogsie, Boogsie
Boogsie Sharpe, Boogsie Sharpe
Boogsie Sharpe

Chorus

He “Sharpe” like de Tenor, sharper than dat
He “Sharpe” like the Bass, sharper than dat
He “Sharpe” like the Guitar, sharper than dat
Boogsie in your face
The Tchaikovsky, the Beethoven
Jamming sweetly, the Mozart of Pan

If a dolphin cry out a note
He can tell you that note immediately
That ain’t easy, that ain’t easy
That ain’t easy
They does call him Boogsie,
Call it again
Boogsie, Boogsie, Boogsie, really “Sharpe”

Verse 3

A reincarnation some people would say,
We does call him Boogsie,
(What’s his name) Boogsie
The rebirth of a champion all the way
We does call him Boogsie
(What’s his name) Boogsie
Every pan he command
Like he made them all with his hand
Thrilling people all over the world musically
Born here in T&T, I proclaim you now
Sir Boogsie, Boogsie
Boogsie Sharpe, Boogsie Sharpe
Boogsie Sharpe

Chorus

He “Sharpe” like de Tenor, sharper than dat, he “Sharpe” like the Bass, sharper than dat
He “Sharpe” like the Guitar, sharper than dat
Boogsie in your face
The Tchaikovsky, the Beethoven
Jamming sweetly, the Mozart of Pan

He inspire so many people to play the pan universally
That ain’t easy, that ain’t easy
That ain’t easy
Dey does call him Boogsie, We does call him Boogsie
Boogsie, Boogsie, really “Sharpe”
We does call him Boogsie
Boogsie, Boogsie, really “Sharpe”

Winston Scarborough is considered by many to be one of the all-time great composers of steelband ‘panorama tunes.’

A performer artiste himself, 2012 will mark the 34th year that Trinidad & Tobago’s Winston Scarborough (The Original DeFosto Himself - as he loves to be called) has been singing calypsos.  For him it was an uphill struggle to be recognized by the fraternity and public at large.

Abandoned by both his parents at the young age of 6 months, Scarborough was sent to the Tacarigua Orphanage in east Trinidad where he remained until age 17.  The experience in the orphanage would place an indelible stamp on him.

One of the most important aspects of DeFosto’s work as a calypsonian is the tributes he has paid in song to many of Trinidad & Tobago’s cultural icons; the late Lord Kitchener (calypsonian Aldwyn Roberts) would be one such with whom people are most familiar.

For 2010 The Original DeFosto Himself dropped two big musical ‘bombshells’ for Panorama: “Smooth Sailing” and “Pan on Fire.”  In 2011 he came back strong once more with “A Raging Storm;” “In She Rainorama;” “Desperadoes Coming Down” and “More Money for Pan.”

For the 2012 panorama season, DeFosto  has already released a couple tracks, including An Intervention of Hope (Lives Have Been Saved.  Yet another ‘witty ditty’ coming from the talented artist is the track featured here, Boogsie Sharpe.
