Global - Results are in from the Large Steel Orchestra semi-final rounds held January 27 at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain. The bands indicated below move to the finals being held 7:00 p.m. Saturday February 9, also at the Savannah.
Both online listeners to the event via Vibe CT 105.1 FM and patrons in attendance of the event expressed surprise that the show, known for running into the early hours of the morning, actually ended a few minutes after midnight, local time. Fonclaire Steel Orchestra, led once more musically by Ken “Professor” Philmore and belting out his vision of Addicted sung by Destra Garcia, was the final band in the seventeen large bands which comprised the second segment of the Panorama semi-finals competition.
With two “ties” in the standings at the end of the night, ten steel orchestras found favor with the judges to proceed to the final phase of competition coming early in February.
These steel orchestras will be preceded by ten in the medium category for the Grand Finals. Tickets are priced at TT $450.00 (Grand Stand General), TT $700.00 (Grand Stand Reserved) and $300.00 (North Stand); they are available at the Ticket Booth at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Atherly’s, Sutton Street in San Fernando, and at Electro Sounds, Dinsley, Tacarigua from Monday 4 February from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
