LYRICS

Intro

Beat Pan boy, beat the Pan, tenors please
Lord - I love meh tenor man,
Meh sweet sweet tenor man
Yes I love meh tenor man
Beat de ting

Verse 1

I looking for a man to play tenor
A man who know, how to play
For pleasure, pleasure pleasure
To take my Pan, and start to deliver
When he beat it so,
He must make me shiver, shiver
A man who knows all the tricks,
A professional with the sticks
A man who could take meh Pan
And give it some licks, serious licks
Yes a man who take meh Pan
And give it some licks, licks, licks

Chorus 1

Beat it beat it, and make me feel sweet
Beat it beat it, and turn up the heat
Beat it beat it, make me cry for more
Beat it beat it, tenors on the floor
He must have a stand,
a stick and a Pan
The only one
Who could give me satisfaction,
Yes man
Once he have a Pan stand,
a stick and a Pan
The only one who would do
Is my tenor man
(My sweet tenor, my sweet tenor
My sweet tenor man) x 2
Boy I love how you roll it
And ah love how you do it
(My sweet tenor man) x 2

Verse 2

I even try, the big-belly bass man
Pure mamaguy,
He was just a waste, man
I try to land the man on the iron
Ah couldn’t stand
Headache and frustration,
But the tenor man holds the key
When he play me my melody
The only one who could bring me
Pure harmony, harmony
Yes, the only one who does bring me
Pure ecstasy, so you see

Chorus 2

Man beat it beat it
And make me feel sweet
Beat it beat it, and turn up the heat
Beat it beat it, make meh body tremble
Beat it beat it beat it,
Make me feel so humble
Once you have a stand,
A stick and a Pan
The only one
Who could bring me satisfaction
Tenor man
You must have a Pan stand,
A stick and a Pan
The only man who go do
Is my tenor man
(My sweet tenor, my sweet tenor,
My sweet tenor man) x 2

Bridge

Tenors from the east
Tenors from the west
Tenors from north
Tenors from the south
Tobago - let’s go

Verse 3

Meh friends does say how I look so quiet
But when steel band play, Nicole is a riot
Not any man could light up my fire
One exception
The man on the tenor, tenor
He hold he note for so long,
And the syncopation so strong
Yes I like how he take the stick
And beat it around
And round and round and round

Chorus 3

Boy beat it beat it
And make me feel sweet
Beat it beat it, and turn up the heat
Beat it beat it, make my tenor roll
Beat it beat it beat it
Make meh lose control
Once he have a stand,
A stick and a Pan
The only one who could give me
Satisfaction - tenor man
Once he have a Pan stand
A stick and a Pan
The only man who go do is my tenor man
(My sweet tenor, my sweet tenor
My sweet tenor man) x 2
(My sweet tenor man) x 3
Yuh sweet -
(Beat the Pan) x 3

Nicole Greaves has been a well-known voice around the Trinidad and Tobago Soca scene for over a decade. Nicole was one of the main female voices behind the popular Soca band Surface.  Then to prove her versatility, in 2010 Nicole ventured into the calypso arena for the first time, singing one of Carlisle Michael Bailey’s compositions, “Where The Lions Are”.

Nicole was first runner up in the Calypso Queen competition, and was also a finalist in the national calypso monarch competition of that year. Because of her sweet voice and great range, she has always been in great demand by producers and other artistes alike, for work with studio background vocals.

For 2013 Nicole Greaves and Carlisle Michael Bailey have collaborated once again with the track featured here—My Sweet Tenor Man—giving Pan lovers a reminder of what a sweet ‘Pan song’ is all about.  Nicole also vocalizes Hammer Time for this Panorama season.

Carlisle Michael Bailey was born in San Juan, Trinidad - Laventille Road to be exact. Carlisle moved to Montreal in 1990, and has been a ‘go-to’ man for lyrics in North America for the past ten years.

In 2010 Carlisle teamed up with the legendary Leston Paul to produce “Where the Lions Are,” which Nicole Greaves took straight to the ‘Big Yard’ (calypso competition). Carlisle has been working with youngsters in Montreal and New York, teaching them the art of calypso and Soca music as a way of giving something back.

For 2013 Carlisle worked with the talented James Ravi Sookhoo—a Trinidadian producer living in Toronto—to produce My Sweet Tenor Man.  Of course none other than the sweet-voiced Nicole Greaves was asked to do the vocals on this one.
