Damian “Hypasounds” Etienne
Damian Etienne referred to in the entertainment industry as ‘Hypasounds’, born December 5th, 1982 is a Disc-jockey, Soca Artist, Song Writer and Producer based in the country Barbados.
Since the late 90’s he has been one of the most popular Disc-jockeys in Barbados hyping crowds at parties, fetes and any place else where turntables or CD players could be found.
Rapidly building a growing fan base with his reputation for quality turntable skills, ‘Hypasounds’ took his entertaining career to another level, he began to showcase his skills in singing and song writing.
In 2006 he released his first soca single “Sunshine Girl”. “Sunshine Girl” emerged as a season favourite burning up the airwaves and was also nominated for Best Ragga Soca Single Male at the Barbados Music Awards.
In 2007 he released his 2nd hit “Sweat” which took a place in the finals at the Cable & Wireless Mount Gay Party Monarch competition. Year after year for the Barbados Crop Over Festival, ‘Hypasounds’ has continued to please his fans with his songs.
His 2011 single “Roll It” scored big internationally on the VP Records Soca Gold Compilation CD, “Roll It” was nominated in three (3) categories at the International Soca Awards, ‘Hypasounds’ received the award for Best New Male Artist.
In February 2012, ‘Hypasounds’ made his first debut at the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival, where “Roll It” was a crowd favourite, he was also honored with the privilege of performing at a private function for the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago and also other parties leading up to carnival jump up day.
In 2013, ‘Hypasounds’ upgraded his talent into the field of producing and subsequently opened his own studio Boommuzik where he wrote and produced his 2013 song “Sunrise” which made it to the Sweet Soca competition semi-finals. He extended his talent to other artist writing and producing tracks such as “Carnival Story”, “Whole day” and “Get way”. “Carnival Story” was very successful by making it all the way through to the 2013 Sweet Soca competition finals.
In 2014, his track “Dutti” was one of the most requested tracks for the crop over festival; where he successfully reached the semi-finals of the People’s Monarch competition.
“Hypasounds” continues to be in fine form with his consistency in quality music which spans the region and the globe. This year (2015) he emerged as one of the top soca artist in Barbados. Both songs ‘Sugarush” and “How she like it” made it to the finals of The sweet soca competition and The Party Monarch competition respectively. He placed third in The Party Monarch and second in the BT Crop Over Superstar Competition.
“Hypasounds” will be the recipient for the “Award of Excellence” at the Barbados Music Awards which is scheduled to be held in January 2016.
