2019 Panorama Info Complete
Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Victorious San Juan East Side Symphony did the East region proud on February 3, and bested nineteen fellow participants in the Single Pan Band field of the 2019 Trinidad and Tobago National Panorama, to become champions in its category. In so doing, they denied defending champions Newtown Playboys Steel Symphony the chance to make it three-in-a-row.
The latter had to settle for a fourth place-tie with La Creole Pan Groove. Newtown Playboys had been first on stage for the final round of competition which took place at the Arima Basketball Court in Arima. San Juan East Side Symphony performed Iron Man as its tune of choice, which was arranged by Carlon “Panman” Harewood, and maintained its lead from the preliminary round results; there were no semi-finals. The band last topped the Single Pan Bands in 2015 with Duvone Stewart as arranger.
For Harewood - 2019’s winning Single Pan band arranger - he has returned to winner’s row for the fourth year running. Arranging for San Juan East Side this year, it had been Harewood who worked with Newtown Playboys for their back-to-back championships in 2018 and 2017. And back in 2016, he again led another Single Pan band to victory - Trinidad East Side Symphony - tying then for first place honors with Marsicans that year. So three different Single Pan bands in four consecutive years have benefited from the musical skill set of Carlon Harewood as arranger. Harewood, incidentally, is also the current Vice President of Pan Trinbago, having been voted into office in October 2018.

Adjudicators were: Mrs. Joslynne Sealey, Dr. Audley Timothy, Mr. Brendon Moore, Ms. Bernadette Roberts, Mr. Cuthbert Matthews and Mr. Vorbin Cordice.
The first National competition is now in the history books for the 2019 Trinidad & Tobago Panorama season. Following in the competitive spotlight will be the preliminaries for the Small, Medium and Large conventional steel orchestras. Nine small steel orchestras from the South/Central region kick things off on Tuesday February 5; venues are the bands’ respective panyards.
