Marabella's Southern Marines Steelband Foundation promotes Talent Expression for the Seventh Year

Marabella, Trinidad, W.I. - The auditions of the Talent Expression competition, produced by the Southern Marines Steelband Foundation came to an end on Sunday 21st October 2007. Forty-two contestants have been chosen to participate in the preliminaries to be held on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th October at the Southern Marines Pan Palais, Southern Main Road, Marabella beginning at 7:00 pm.

Talent Expression is a performance talent competition organised by the Southern Marines Steelband Foundation since 2001. It is not restricted to Pan, but encompasses all performance art e.g. instrumental, vocal, dance, monologue, poetry etc.   This format was decided upon because Southern Marines views its mission in the broadest sense as one of youth and community empowerment and development - through Pan, both as instrument and as movement of the people - and the Arts as a whole.

Since the event's inception, three pannists have won this competition (Keisha Codrington, Junior “Wiggy” Hinds and Richarde Bereaux). So too, have two dancers and one vocalist (calypsonian).

The following contestants have been slated to perform on Saturday 27th October:

MEGAN WALROND, JAMES SAMUEL, GWENDOLYN BLACKMAN, KEN GAFOOR, MARSHA CAGAN, LEROY PARRIS, WHITNEY MOORE, ROBERT CHARLES, LINUS SALVADOR, MELISSA ADAMS, LUCY M. REGIS, KERNESHA RAMAI, CLAUDE NEPTUNE, KESTON SMALL, COLIN MILLS, KEN MCLEOD, ANTON SOUGRIN, KEINO SWAMBER, KWESI EVANS, CECIL MCDAVID and HENRY NELSON.

The following contestants have been slated to perform on Sunday 28th October:

Contestants must arrive at the venue at 6:00 pm in order to draw for positions.

Talent Expression is now in its seventh year and has proved to be the leading contest of its kind in the Southland, and has marked the Southern Marines Steelband Foundation as a driving force in the struggle to provide performance opportunities for artistes who need them in order to develop their artistic self-expression.

The semi-finals of the Talent Expression competition will be held on Saturday November 10th 2007 and the Grand Finals will be held on Saturday 24th November 2007, all at the Southern Marines Pan Palais. There is more than $32,000 at stake in the competition.
