Pan in the 21st Century

Courts Sound Specialists of Laventille will kick off the Preliminary round of Conventional Band category in this year’s TSTT Pan in the 21st Century tomorrow Wednesday.

The current Panorama Medium Band winner hopes to add another title to their name with their rendition of Billy Ocean’s “Caribbean Queen” arranged by Ken “Professor” Philmore.

Seven (7) bands will face the four-member adjudication panel starting with the Eastern Quarry, Laventille–based steel orchestra at 7:00 pm.

Also in tomorrow’s line-up is defending champion Silver Stars. They will be the third band to be visited by the judges, For the competition, they will be playing Michael Jackson’s “Bad” as arranged by leader Edwin Pouchet.

The competition continues on Friday 11th April 2008 in the South/Central region. Nine (9) bands starting with Tropical Angel Harps in Chaguanas and ending at the Antillean All Stars’ panyard, Carib Street, San Fernando, will go through their paces.

On Saturday 12th, the action shifts to the East. Here eight (8) bands will face the judges beginning at Harmonites in Barataria and culminating at Simple Song in Arima. Starting time in both regions is 7:00 pm. The exercise will end on Sunday in Tobago where Katzenjammers and Our Boys will perform.

Twenty four (24) bands – twelve each from the two categories will proceed to the final round at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, on Friday 18th April 2008. Show time is 8:00 pm.
