Clifford Alexis - staff member at
Northern Illinois University (NIU) - has been selected to receive an
‘Outstanding Service Award for Staff’ for the year 2009.
He has been employed with NIU for the past 22 years and
at present, is the co-director of the NIU steelband together
with Liam Teague. In addition to co-directing the steelband,
Clifford has been involved in composing and arranging music
for the NIU steelband and other orchestras within the US.
Additionally, Clifford also builds and tunes steelpan
instruments for NIU, other schools and groups within the US
- and anyone that
requires his services.
Clifford also travels frequently, doing clinics and guest
lecturing at many educational institutions; he most recently returned from
working with University of Akron’s steelband where he tuned
their instruments and also performed with the group.
The Outstanding Service Awards will be presented at the 40th
Annual Service Awards Banquet on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at
the Duke Ellington Ballroom at NIU, where Clifford will be
honored with a plaque and
a cash award.
