Panaide Foundation steps up for unsponsored Steel Orchestras

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, WI:  “Panaide - The Benefit Concert” is an event in which sponsored steelbands in Port-of-Spain and environs perform in a showcase with the aim of raising funds to assist the unsponsored bands in that geographical location.

Expected to receive a large patronage, the Panaide Benefit Concert, organized by the newly-formed Panaide Foundation, seeks to utilize the corporate advantage gained by the sponsored bands. The proposed plan is for the concert to create and strengthen bonds between the steelbands and the wider community while providing start-up capital for the unsponsored bands for Carnival 2010.

With a showtime of 7:00 p.m., the concert is scheduled to take place on Thursday December 17, 2009 at the panyard of Neal and Massy Trinidad All Stars Steel Orchestra in Port-of-Spain.  Five of the Northern Region’s sponsored bands will perform selections from their repertoires that reflect the yuletide season, each presenting an anticipated forty-five minute musical showcase.  The event also gives bands the opportunity to spread Christmas cheer to their fellow steelbandsmen.

Steel orchestras confirmed to appear on the evening’s playbill are: reigning National Junior Panorama champion BP Renegades Youth Steel Orchestra; Angostura Woodbrook Playboyz; Petrotrin Phase II Pan Groove; Courts Sound Specialists of Laventille; and reigning National Panorama Champion (large) PCS Silver Stars Steel Orchestra.

Funds obtained from the undertaking would be divided equally among all unsponsored bands of the region and distributed at a Media Conference at which all contributing bands and sponsors would be invited.

President of the Panaide Foundation Sean Nero (pictured) said: “Steelbands operating within the Northern Region of Pan Trinbago are part of a region that is well known for its camaraderie and event production skills.  We have combined these and developed an event that truly exemplifies the true spirit of this community.”

The Panaide Foundation is a coming together of young panists ages 35 and younger from the bowels of the steelband fraternity, who share the common vision that steelbandsmen ought to be undertaking endeavours to assist each other.
