Desperadoes Steel Orchestra puts spotlight on Laventille Community

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - In 2008, Desperadoes Steel Orchestra hosted a series of community concerts in Laventille, Trinidad, as phase one of its on-going programme in the role of change champions for the community utilizing the medium of music. This is part of the band’s ultimate goal to rehabilitate Laventille.  The second stage of events is a series of concerts: “Laventille Will Rise Again” - in recognition of the musical icons of its community - both living, and those who have since passed on.

To this end, Desperadoes will be hosting three (3) concerts with the gala opening at its Panyard & Theatre, Laventille, on Friday 24th July, 2009, beginning at 8:00 p.m. One of the primary objectives is to re-name the Auditorium (built in the panyard) after the celebrated leader Rudolph Charles and to remember their late and gifted musical arranger and master musician, Clive Bradley.

Two other concerts are carded for 25 & 26 July, 2009 at the St. James Amphitheatre, Western Main Road, St. James, at 8:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. respectively.

Participants in the concert will include performers of note whose roots are lodged in Laventille. Artistes of the Hill include Soca singer Destra Garcia, calypsonian Singing Sandra, North West Laventille Cultural Organization, Karen Asche, rapso artist Brother Resistance, Laventille Rhythm Section and host band WITCO Desperadoes Steel Orchestra, which will revisit the music of Bradley.

Admission is free on Friday 24 July at the Desperadoes Panyard Auditorium and Theatre, Laventille, while there is a TT$100.00 cover charge at the Saturday and Sunday concerts at the Amphitheatre, Western Main Road, St. James.
