- The National Alliance of Steel bands announces its
organizational kickoff
reception, to be held at St.
Gregory’s School, 991 St.
John’s Place (corner of
Brooklyn Avenue), on Sunday, May 9,
2010, starting at 6 p.m.
The National Alliance of
Steel bands is a membership
organization representing
20 community-based
steel orchestras located in
New York, Boston and
Washington, DC.
The event will promote the
agenda and goals of the
organization and will also
feature the installation of
the officers of the
organization. It will also
feature entertainment by two
member bands, Steel
Sensation and Harlem All
Stars, which is the oldest
continually functioning
community steel band in the
USA.
NAS (National Alliance of
Steel) seeks to advance the
interests of the steel band
community, in advancing
musical education, producing
concerts and performances of
its member bands, and
serving as an advocate on
issues of importance to the
broader steel band
community.
The NAS member bands include
ADLIB, Pan Sonatas, Harmony,
Steel Sensation, Utopia Pan
Soul, D’Radoes, Dem Stars,
Harlem All Stars, Hearts of
Steel, Moods Pan Groove,
Jambalasi, Metro (Boston),
Pan Ivory , Branches
(Boston), Caribbean Youth
Panoramics, NY Marsicans, San
Juan East Side and JahPan.
