Dear Colleagues;
Three
years ago, we spoke to you about the
contributions and financial impact that people
of Caribbean descent were having on the US
landscape. One such personality produced a
Steelpan Jazz concert at Lincoln Center that
year. Since then the concert has grown much in
stature and popularity as it has become the most
prestigious event of its kind in the US.
Moreover, it displays the economic might, upward
mobility and cultural significance of the people
of the Caribbean, and their continued
contributions to the growing New York economic
and cultural environment.
There is a
great business and human story here that will
thrill and inform your readers. "How do you go
from a dream and an idea - to the best produced
show of its genre in America?" The show is
produced by Ralph Ramsey of Abstract
Entertainment. Mr. Ramsey is a dynamic and
forward-thinking young entrepreneur. An article
on Mr. Ramsey, his success, and the upcoming
June concert would be a great addition to your
publication. And of course there is the
steelpan instrument - once considered simply an
exotic tourist novelty, but has now taken the
world by storm and firmly established itself
among the family of 'conventional' instruments.
Indeed, steelband ensembles and steelpan music
majors can now be found in almost every college
in America.
This
year's concert will be at the House of Jazz at
Lincoln Center during the official New York
Caribbean week celebrations in June,
recently-designated Caribbean Heritage month by
President George W. Bush - which ironically
is already Black Music Month. The concert
series has become a star attraction of the
Lincoln Center presentations.
I have provided you below
with some background information on Mr. Ramsey
and his contact info:
Please feel free to contact
