Japhon Barthley participated in ‘PanoGrama 2021.’ His instrument was made and tuned by Bertram “Birch” Kelman.
“My name is Japhon Barthley. I am a 17-year-old musician from the nation of Antigua and Barbuda. I am currently a student at the Antigua State College, pursuing a degree in Pharmacology but it is my intention to further my studies in music in the near future. I have been a lover of music since the age of 9. I play the electric/acoustic guitar, bass guitar, drums and the steelpan. I am an all- rounder pertaining to steelpan but I am more experienced on the single tenor. I have been playing steel pan for approximately 5 years.
“I decided to audition for this year’s PanoGrama competition to not only develop and enhance my playing skills as a panist, but to motivate other young panists to make use of every opportunity available to them to showcase their talents. I am humbled to be a representative for my country, Antigua and Barbuda, and pleased to be a part of PanoGrama. I will always put forward my best endeavour.”
