Meet Gabriel Chartrand of Canada - Steelpan Performing Artist

Gabriel Chartrand is returning to compete in PanoGrama 2022.  Gabriel was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and is proud to be of Cree First Nations Ancestry. He currently lives in Toronto, Canada but is deeply connected to his roots and people.

Gabriel is also a gifted self-taught musician, and has been guided by several mentors in the steelpan community. He began learning to play the steelpan in Grade 6 Elementary School and fell in love with it ever since. This constant love has led him to play with multiple bands in his local community in Toronto. These include Panatics Steelband Network, Afropan Steelband, The People's Band and Souls of Steel Orchestra.

He participated in ‘PanoGrama 2021, where his instrument was made and tuned by Earle Wong.
