Coming from Belmont, Port of Spain, Trinidad - the passion for the Steel Pan began to grow when Tevin “Sparky” Shockness began participating in Junior Panorama with St. Margaret’s Boys Steel Orchestra. Years later Tevin became a graduate of the University of Trinidad and Tobago’s Academy for the Performing Arts (UTT) where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts for The Performing Arts with a Specialization in Music.
Tevin currently plays steel pan, drum set and has just started learning the guitar. Before and during his time in university, he has been and currently is a professional musician. He previously arranged music for Flabej Now Ensemble, Brimblers Steel Orchestra, Belmont 5th Dimension, West Stars Steel Orchestra and Harlem Syncopators, and after his degree worked with Arima Angel Harps.
During his musical career, Tevin has performed in major shows and concerts such as The Living Years (IV and V), A Softer Touch on Steel (I and II) and the opening ceremony for the Aldwyn Roberts Auditorium. He is also known for international performances in Panama City, Penonomé (Panama), Gunslinger’s 60th Anniversary (St. Maarten) and numerous performances in Cuba. Tevin is now the arranger for La Famille United and currently the captain of Suavé Steel.
