8. National Semi-Finals
8.1 The National Semi-Final for Small Conventional Steelbands will be held on Saturday 22nd January, 2005 at 1.00 p.m. at a venue in Port of Spain.
8.2 Semi-Final Rounds for Conventional Steelbands The National Semi-Finals for the Medium and Large Conventional Steelbands respectively shall be held at the Queens Park Savannah, Port of Spain on Sunday 23rd January 2005 at 11:00 a.m.
8.3 Semi-Final Rounds for Single Pan Steelbands The National Semi-Finals for Single Pan Steelbands shall be held at the City Hall, Knox Street, Port of Spain on Saturday 29th January 2005 at 6:00 p.m.
8.4 Judging in the National Single Pan Steelband Semi-Final Rounds The Semi-Final stage of the Single Pan Steelband competition shall be adjudicated in the manner hereinafter outlined: -
(a) There shall be a total of Six (6) judges for the Semi-Final stage of the Single Pan Steelband competition;
(b) The judges shall be appointed by the Events Committee;
(c) Only five (5) judges shall actually deliberate at the competition;
(d) The five (5) judges to be seated shall be selected by ballot immediately prior to the start of each stage of the competition;
(e) The sixth judge shall be appointed to serve as an alternate and shall take the place of any of the five seated judges who may be unable to function for the entire stage of the competition for which they have been selected as a judge;
(f) In tallying the points earned by a Single Pan Steelband during the Semi-Final stage of the competition, the highest and lowest points awarded to a steelband by the judges shall be excluded and the score to be awarded shall be the aggregate points of the other Three (3) judges;
(g) In the event that two or more members of the panel of judges award the same score to a Single Pan Steelband at the highest or lowest level, only one of these scores at each level shall be eliminated; and
(h) The decision of the judges shall be final and binding and the Events Committee shall not entertain any protest with regard to judging.
8.5 Judging in the National Conventional Steelband Semi-Final Rounds The Semi-Final stage of the Conventional Steelband competition shall be adjudicated in the manner hereinafter outlined: -
(a) There shall be a total of Eight (8) judges for the Semi-Final stage of the National Conventional Steelband competition;
(b) The judges shall be appointed by the Events Committee;
(c) Only seven (7) judges shall actually deliberate at the competition;
(d) The seven (7) judges to be seated shall be selected by ballot immediately prior to the start of each stage of the competition;
(e) The eighth judge shall be appointed to serve as an alternate and shall take the place of any of the seven seated judges who may be unable to function for the entire stage of the competition for which they have been selected as a judge;
(f) In tallying the points earned by a Conventional Steelband during the Semi-Final stage of the competition, the highest and lowest points awarded to a steelband by the judges shall be excluded and the score to be awarded shall be the aggregate points of the other Five (5) judges;
(g) In the event that two or more members of the panel of judges award the same score to a Conventional Steelband at the highest or lowest level, only one of these scores at each level shall be eliminated; and
(h) The decision of the judges shall be final and binding and the Events Committee shall not entertain any protest with regard to judging.
8.6 Conclusion of Single Pan Steelband Semi-Final Rounds At the conclusion of the semi-final rounds, Fifteen (15) steelbands shall be selected by order of merit to compete against the reigning National Single Pan Champion in the Single Pan Finals.
8.7 Conclusion of Conventional Steelband Semi-Final Rounds At the conclusion of the semi-final rounds, Eight (8) steelbands each in the Large, Medium and Small categories shall be selected by order of merit to compete in the National Finals.
