Regulations & Contest Rules


 

3.         REGULATIONS

 

Any steelband who contravenes any of the under-mentioned regulation will be disqualified:

 

I.          The competition is opened to all financial member bands of Pan Trinbago.

 

II.          All bands wishing to participate in the competition must be a registered member of Pan Trinbago of two years standing and prove that they are in readiness for the competition.

 

III.         Conventional steelbands will not be permitted to participate with less than fifty (50) players or with more than one hundred (100) players; and Singe Pan steelbands with less than twenty-five (25) players or with more than forty-five (45) players.

 


4.       QUALIFYING ROUNDS

 

a)    Preliminaries for both Single Pan and Conventional bands will be held in each Region and judging will be done at the various Panyards or at a suitable location in each community.

 

b)    At the conclusion of these Preliminaries, Steelbands will be selected to go forward to the National Single Pan Semi-Final and the National Semi-Finals for Conventional Steelbands as follows:

 

Single Pan

 

v      Fourteen (14) bands       -  Northern Region

v      Nine (9) bands                -  Eastern Region

v      Four (4) bands                -  South/Central Region

v      Three (3) bands              -  Tobago Region

 

Conventional

 

v      Ten (10) bands               -  Northern Region

v      Ten (10) bands               -  Eastern Region

v      Seven (7) bands              -  South/Central Region

v      Three (3) bands              -  Tobago Region

At the conclusion of the Preliminaries, Conventional Steelbands not selected for the National Semi-Finals will be revisited by the Regional Panel of Adjudicators to vie for selection to the Sydney Gollop Trophy Competition as follows:

 

Three (3) bands                        -  Northern Region

Three (3) bands                        -  Eastern Region

Three (3) bands                        -  South/Central Region

One (1) band                            -  Tobago Region

 


 

5.       NATIONAL SEMI-FINALS

 

a)    The National Semi-Finals for Conventional Steelbands will be held at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain on Sunday, February 15, from 11.00 a.m.

 

b)    The National Semi-Finals for Single Pan Steelbands will be held at the Queen’s Park Savannah on Saturday, February 22 at 4.00 p.m.

 

c)     At the conclusion of the Semi-Finals, eleven (11) steelbands in each category will be selected by order of merit to compete against the reigning National Conventional Champion and Single Pan Champion for the National Conventional and Single Pan Finals respectively.

 


6.       NATIONAL FINALS

 

a)    The National Finals (Single Pan) will be held at The Basket Ball Court, Princess Royal Park, Arima on Friday, February 28 at 7.00 p.m.

 

b)    The Finals of the Sydney Gollop Trophy competition (conventional bands) will be held at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain on Wednesday, February 26 at 8.00 p.m.

 

c)     The National Panorama Finals (Conventional) will be held at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain on Saturday, March 1 at 7.00 p.m.

 

d)    All competing bands will draw for playing positions in the Finals of the 2003 National Panorama Competition.

 


 

7.       (a)     MUSICAL SELECTION

 

                                           i.            For the competition, steelbands must render a Calypso of Choice, sung or published for the first time after Ash Wednesday 2002, such Calypso must be composed by anyone, Calypsonian or otherwise.

 

                                        ii.            Any steelband, as at paragraph 1 - Item 8, that contravenes this (item) Rule, shall be disqualified and as a consequence, no benefits by way of Appearance Fees or by way of Assistance Subsidy shall accrue to said steelband.
