In his teen years, Kwesi experienced his first ‘Panorama win’ in 1998 with NuTones Steel Orchestra under arranger Clive Bradley, with the latter’s arrangement of ‘High Mas.’ He next experienced the exhilaration of winning with Trinidad All Stars, playing Leon “Smooth” Edwards’ panorama arrangement of ‘Fire Storm.’
His passion for pan continued, and when he became involved with Pandemonium Steel Orchestra, ran parallel to his learning to play drums and arranging music. Kwesi developed his craft in arranging, and then started with Pan In The 21st Century competitions. His first arrangement for Panorama was of ‘Trini’ by Benjai; the band fell short by one in moving on to the next round of competition. The following year the band qualified for the semi-final with his arrangement of ‘Melosian Rhapsody.’
For the 2016 Panorama season, Kwesi Paul arranged ‘Soca Pan Tuner’ for Blue Diamonds Steel Orchestra competing in the small band category; he co-arranger for 2018. La Horquetta Pan Groove will have the benefit of his talents for 2020.
