Born August 21, 1981 - Roland Peters lives on Coffee Street in San Fernando, south Trinidad. He started playing pan at age 13, and went into arranging and tutoring with St. Gabriel’s Primary School. He entered the ‘Pan for Blue’ competition, placing first, and then went on to arrange at the Ste. Madeline Secondary School, placing 10
th in the Junior Panorama. Peters then founded Pan Glow Youth to enter the 2010 Junior Panorama, and again placed 10
th. His first experience in arranging for the National Panorama is with Motown Steel Orchestra where he is also the band captain. In addition to this commitment, Peters is also working with junior orchestras Debe High and Pan Glow Youth for the 2014 Junior Panorama, and assisting that of St. Paul’s Anglican in the Primary category. Later in 2014 will find the busy Peters tutoring branches of the Southern Trinidad
& Tobago Police Youth Club Steel Bands.
Peters has performed with a variety of steel orchestras including Skiffle Bunch, Fonclaire, Panasonic Connection, Mount Moriah, Naparima Girls, Achaiba’s Pan Ensemble, Southern All Stars, Blue Diamonds, Pan Revival, Old Tech and that of the Jesse Ketchum Public School in Canada. He has also worked as a performer aboard the Royal Caribbean, Princess Cruises and Holland America Line. Roland Peters’ abilities are not limited to the steelpan, but also extend to traps and percussion.
