annual Pan
Jamboree,
coming off
on Sunday
May 24 in
North
Brentwood,
Maryland.
Known for
putting on
fabulous
steelband
shows
several
times a
year, the
2009 edition
of their
jamboree
again
features an
exciting
line up of
some of the
finest
steelbands
on the east
coast,
including
Pan Masters
themselves.
Joining them
will be area
steel
orchestras
St.
Veronica’s
Youth Steel
Orchestra,
Pan Majestic
Youth
Academy
Steel
Orchestra,
Positive
Vibrations
Youth Steel
Orchestra,

Steel
Orchestra,
along with reigning

Several
years ago
this
much-anticipated
jamboree
out-grew the
band’s pan
yard - such
was its
success, and
attendance
of pan
lovers.
The event
now takes
place a
couple
blocks away,
just south
of the
band’s
headquarters
at 4509 Rhode
Island
Avenue.
Scheduled to
get underway
at 2:00 p.m.,
the outdoor
affair will
also feature
mouth-watering
Caribbean
food and
crafts for
sale,
and
continues through 10:00 p.m.
Pan Masters
celebrated
its
twentieth
anniversary
in 2005, and
remains
steadfast in
their
mission to
service,
develop and
encourage
cross-cultural
programs
within their
community
while
expanding
and
showcasing
Caribbean
culture.
Additionally,
the
organization
has
developed
and fostered
a program to
educate
youths and
adults in
Caribbean
arts, crafts
and culture
and teach
them the art
of “playing”
the steel
pan.
For their
tireless
service to
the
community,
and as
nominated by
North
Brentwood’s
Mayor
Petrella
Robinson -
Pan Masters
Steel
Orchestra
was
the very proud
recipient of
Maryland
Governor
Martin
O’Malley’s
Volunteer
Service
Award in
2009, the
year of the
organization’s
twenty-fourth
anniversary.
The
presentation
ceremony was
held at the
Maryland
Hall for
Creative
Arts in
Annapolis on
April 20.
