- In 2008,
Desperadoes
Steel
Orchestra
hosted a
series of
community
concerts in
Laventille,
Trinidad, as
phase one of
its on-going
programme in
the role of
change
champions
for the
community
utilizing
the medium
of music.
This is part
of the
band’s
ultimate
goal to
rehabilitate
Laventille.
The second
stage of
events is a
series of
concerts:
“Laventille
Will Rise
Again” - in
recognition
of the
musical
icons of its
community -
both living,
and those
who have
since passed on.
To this end,
Desperadoes
will be
hosting
three (3)
concerts
with the
gala opening
at its
Panyard &
Theatre,
Laventille,
on Friday
24th July,
2009,
beginning at
8:00 p.m.
One of the
primary
objectives
is to
re-name the
Auditorium
(built in
the panyard)
after the
celebrated
leader
Rudolph
Charles and
to remember
their late and
gifted
musical
arranger and
master
musician,
Clive
Bradley.
Two other
concerts are
carded for
25 & 26
July, 2009
at the St.
James
Amphitheatre,
Western Main
Road, St.
James, at
8:00 p.m.
and 6:30
p.m.
respectively.
Participants
in the
concert will
include
performers
of note
whose roots
are lodged
in
Laventille.
Artistes of
the Hill
include Soca
singer
Destra
Garcia,
calypsonian
Singing
Sandra,
North West
Laventille
Cultural
Organization,
Karen Asche,
rapso artist
Brother
Resistance,
Laventille
Rhythm
Section and
host band
WITCO
Desperadoes
Steel
Orchestra,
which will
revisit the music of
Bradley.
Admission is
free on
Friday 24
July at the
Desperadoes
Panyard
Auditorium
and Theatre,
Laventille,
while there
is a
TT$100.00
cover charge
at the
Saturday and
Sunday
concerts at
the
Amphitheatre,
Western Main
Road, St.
James.
