Trinidad
& Tobago, W.I. -
The inclusion of steel orchestras from Pan in the 21st Century in the NAPA
(National Academy for the
Performing Arts) project gives the steelpan community the opportunity to showcase the versatility of the national instrument in the acoustically designed NAPA space.
‘Pop Meets Steel’ is the fifth in the series of NAPA Fest featuring different genres of Trinidad & Tobago’s cultural expression. This event will be held over a two-day period: Saturday June 26 and Sunday June 27, at the National Academy of Performing Arts in Port-of-Spain, under the aegis of the Ministry of Arts and Multiculturalism.
Ten competition finalists from 1999—2009 were selected. Day One will feature Desperadoes, Katzenjammers (Tobago), Invaders, Fonclaire, Exodus and Trinidad All Stars. Traditional Pan round de Neck band St. James Tripolians will open on Saturday. Show time is 7:30 p.m.
Day Two will see L.H. Pan Groove as the opening act with Phase
II Pan Groove, Sound Specialists of Laventille, Renegades, Skiffle
Bunch and Silver
Stars steel orchestras completing the playbill.
