since its formation in 1980 and
this is the 15th CD
to be released by the orchestra.
Recordings have been done on labels in France, Japan and
Trinidad & Tobago.
Paris Pan
Jam was
recorded in France in 2009 when
the band did a five-week tour of
Europe, and originally released
in France this year when the
band returned to Europe for two
months from May through July.
Last year Pamberi was offered the
opportunity to record at Le
Sax Studios in Acheres, Paris,
while they were on tour. Fifteen
songs from the band’s extensive
repertoire were recorded and
mixed at Le Sax. It was mastered
at Martin Raymond Studios, St. Ann’s, Trinidad.
Ten tracks
were eventually used for the
production. Paris Pan Jam features
Pamberi’s sterling performances and interpretations of compositions
by Stevie Wonder
and Pat Metheny
(USA), Ludwig Van
Beethoven (Germany),
William Cepeda (Puerto Rico), and
Aldwyn
Roberts (Lord Kitchener) and
Andre
Tanker (Trinidad & Tobago).
Original music works by Pamberi’s Brian Villafana - Musical Director, Cheo Cato,
captain of the orchestra, and senior band member Reon Patterson, are part of the
compilation.
With the exception of Cato and Patterson’s original compositions, all the
musical arrangements on the CD were done by Villafana.
Paris Pan Jam is
dedicated to two Trinidad and
Tobago patriots who have been
influential in the progress of Pamberi Steel Orchestra over the years, both of
whom have passed on:
-
John La Rose
lived and worked in London, UK. He was a book publisher,
essayist and political activist
who was responsible for making
connections for Pamberi to
perform for audiences around the
world
-
Malcolm
Sullivan was a founding member
of the band. He was a senior
player, section leader, arranger
and pan Instructor with Trinidad
& Tobago’s
Ministry of Education. At the
time of his passing in 2009 he
was still an active member of Pamberi.
Harmonites
Steel Orchestra and
soloist Earl Brooks will
join Pamberi in providing live
entertainment at the CD Launch
on Saturday. Admission is
free to the public. The CD will
