Invaders Steel Orchestra Celebrates 10 Years of Pan, Parang and Pork

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - As the saying goes “Necessity is the mother of invention,” and so it was out of the realization that corporate sponsorship was only a partial means to sustainability, and in order to achieve self-sufficiency, that a more ingenious solution to financing the operational and infrastructural development of the panyard was needed. This was the vision of Invaders’ manager, Michael Dinchong which gave birth to the Invaders’ Pan, Parang and Pork (3ps) in 2002.

What started off as a small intermit, but high-quality entertainment event held in Lion’s Civic Centre ten years ago has now established itself as the event that signals the opening of the Christmas celebrations in Trinidad. In 2009 the ‘3ps’ as it is popularly referred to, was replaced by an all-inclusive Pan party called “Celebrate”, but this was quickly shelved due to the overwhelming public demand to return to the original event.

So, is it the Pan, the Parang or the Pork that attracts patrons? Some say it’s all, but what has been evident over the years is the diversity in the varieties of Pork creations which have tantalized the taste buds of thousands. The pork has been stewed, jerked, roasted, barbequed, char sued, minced and pickled by culinary guru Dune Ali of Rib House. Ali is already busy conjuring up his secret ingredients for a suckling pig which has been generously donated by Soca King Scrunter as a ten-year gift to the band.

Throughout the ten years of hosting the Pan, Parang and Pork fundraiser, Invaders is especially grateful to the companies, colleagues in the Pan fraternity and patrons who have consistently supported this event. Special mention is given to their sponsor Caribbean Airlines Ltd as well as corporate citizens National Lotteries Control Board, Angostura, Carib, Simon’s Musical, Bptt, Atlantic and QPCC.

The 2012 10th Pan, Parang and Pork takes place on Sunday 4th November at the Queen’s Park Oval from 5:30 p.m. to midnight. A spectacular, never-before seen performance is planned which includes Invaders Steel Orchestra performing with Carl and Carol Jacobs, soca icons from the ‘70s, along with their daughters Carla and Trini. The sweetness of the traditional parang will be presented by Los Dinamicos, while soca parang star Scrunter will have patrons dancing throughout the evening. Dinner options include Pork and Non-Pork selections. Tickets are only TT $300.00.
