According to the CEO, Chief Bowie S. Bowei, the steelpan art form which is currently spreading across Nigeria presents great opportunities for professionals, entertainers and entrepreneurs. He also said that the boys would benefit immensely from the donation as it promises to open up their minds to the ever-increasing opportunities in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

In a pre-presentation demonstration of the instruments, very senior officers including the former Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Ogumudia, the commandant of the Nigerian Military School Brig. The donation, which includes free tutorials and training for the boys and the instructors, is aimed at teaching them the rudiments of pan playing which will be subsequently developed to prepare them for the annual National Junior Steelpan Panorama. The event comes up in November and is the platform for selecting Nigeria’s representatives at the International Steelpan Festival (ISF)/Competition in Johannesburg, South Africa. The NMS Boys will be expected to compete against other schools including the 2014 Nigerian representatives at the ISF, Bayelsa State Junior Steelpan Orchestra, Loral International School, Igbessa, Ogun State and St. Jude’s Private School, Festac Town, Lagos. The boys are also expected to entertain guests during the 60th anniversary celebration of the school.
