Steelpan Day Parade

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Single Pan Bands formerly known as Pan ‘Round De Neck bands will have their own day, “Paving D’ Way”,  during the International Conference and Panorama in August.

International Conference and PanoramaCome Saturday August 08th 2015 from 3:00 pm, in recognition of the role of the Single Pan Bands in the history and development of the steelpan movement, eighteen (18) bands from across Trinidad will participate in a parade through the streets of upper Port of Spain. 

The Parade starts from Pan Trinbago’s headquarters on Park Street (opposite Victoria Square), north onto Charlotte Street, left unto Keate Street and right onto Frederick Street ending at the Steelpan Village in the Queen’s Park Savannah.

In addition to the Parade, there will be two (2) competitions in front of bp Renegades Pan Theatre, Charlotte Street, Port of Spain.

The first will see the steelbands being judged on their performance of a calypso composed before 2000. Winner takes home $3000. sponsored by bptt. The other is open to flag wavers of the bands who will vie for a cash prize of $500.

Participating Single Pan Bands have been selected from Pan Trinbago’s three (3) regions namely North, East and South/Central.

These are La Creole Pan Groove, La Famille United, Scrunters Pan Groove, Uni Stars, City Sun Valley, T&T Fire Services. Other bands include Marsicans, Trinidad East Side, Trinidad Nostalgic, San Juan East Side, Pan Jammers, Curepe Polyphonics, Self Help Marines, Fyzabad 4th Dimension, New Age Trendsetters and King’s Row Retro Rhythm.  Sapophonics will entertain patrons at the Steelpan Village. Jah Roots from Point Fortin will lead off while T&T Defense Force in the North will bring up the rear of the Parade.

“Paving D’ Way” rationalised the theme adopted for the event in that the single pan bands paved the way for the conventional bands and they are paving the way as a build up to the International Panorama on the following day.

Several other events have been planned as a lead up to the main event, the International Panorama carded for Sunday august 09th at the Queen’s Park Savannah. These include Pastiche Steel in Concert on Friday 7th August at the Hyatt Regency, Steel Pan Village, Queen’s Park Savannah, from August 5th to 9th, the International Conference at Hyatt Regency from August 5th to 7th.
