Prelims - for 2008

Forty
Six (46) Conventional Steel Bands from the North
and East Regions will on Sunday 20th January
2008 start “de carnival’ at the Queen’s Park
Savannah venue (Northern Greens), Port of Spain,
from 9:00 am
Bands in the Small Band category will be judged
first. Some 22 bands are listed to appear in
this category. They will be followed by 14
Medium Bands and 10 Large Bands.
Prior to “De Savannah Party”, bands in the
South/Central region will face the adjudication
panels on Friday 18th January at Skinner Park,
San Fernando. Tobago bands will take centre
stage on Tuesday 22nd January at the Dwight
Yorke Stadium, Scarborough.
At the conclusion of the preliminaries, 42 bands
comprising 14 in each of the three categories
will move on to the National Panorama
Semi-finals at the Queen’s Park Savannah venue
on Sunday 27th January 2008.
Tickets for both the Preliminaries and
Semi-Finals at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port
of Spain are priced at $200. Northern Grounds,
$250. Paddock Stands and $150. Paddock Grounds,
and will go on sale next week at advertised
venues.
Single Pan Bands in all regions will go through
their paces at venues in their respective
regions commencing in the East on Thursday 17th
January. North and South/Central Bands will face
the judges on Friday 18th January 2008 with
Tobago bands rounding off the series on Saturday
19 January. The Semi-Finals in this category is
carded for Saturday 26th January in front of
Victoria Square, Park Street, Port of Spain.
Bands in all categories will be able to perform
any calypso from the current year, or any
previous year, as long as the band has not
played the composition in a Panorama
competition. Arrangers are being allowed to work
with one band in each of the categories.
Songs performed by Chucky, De Fosto, Anslem
Douglas, Steve Sealy, Shadow, Anthony Johnson,
Tony Prescott, Destra, Sparrow, David Rudder,
Chris “Tambu” Herbert and Arrow are among the
popular choices.
