Percil Nock-Boyce

Percil Nock-Boyce is a former music student and teacher (piano) at the Hutchinson School of Music, San Fernando, Trinidad.  She  is currently employed as a tennis coach at her own tennis facility in Chaguanas, central Trinidad.  Percil was one of the first females to play pan as a member of Hatters Steels Orchestra in San Fernando, back in the times when it was ‘not socially acceptable’ for girls to be seen in panyards (moreso students of the Piano!) But there is no stopping someone fascinated by the sound of pan!

So the question is: what was the inspiration to compose and sing calypso? The answer is simply the panorama story of 2009 ...100 players in a large band!!

While watching the Trinidad & Tobago steelband panorama finals on television back on February 18 (I deviated from tradition and did not attend the finals) players were removed from the band [Exodus, as they exceed the ‘official’ musician limit of 100].  There and then, pen came to paper....the rest, as they say is history! Thanks to the brilliance of Pelham Goddard and his musicians, there is now another piece of music for panorama bands to take up the challenge!!

LYRICS

Two sticks in meh hand
I want to jam
Standing attention, watching the pan
They count meh out without a doubt
With a hundred players in a big band,
I don’t have a great chance
To play in the band
I listening to the tenors, guitars, quads and the bass pan
But I still have two sticks in meh hand

Chorus:

Two sticks, two sticks in meh hand
I just want to play a pan
They only want one hundred players
And that is all
I’m off the stage pan man woman in a rage
All I have remain is two sticks, two sticks in meh hand

I can’t understand
Why they had that planned
To count and count me out, out of the band
Trying to sought things out
But I had to shut meh mouth
And get right out of the band
I know this music
Yet I’m not allowed to play
I stand up there listening to the sweet
Sound of meh band
But I still have two sticks in meh hand

Chorus:

Panorama night
The stage all alight
I’m ready like Freddy oh what a sight
But they still count meh out without a doubt
And treated meh like a tout
If you could only see meh face in shock
Ah pose up there in meh uniform
Saluting the pan
But I still have two sticks in meh hand

Refrain

Two sticks… in meh hand
Two sticks… in meh hand
Two sticks… in meh hand
Two sticks… in meh hand

Ah want to play meh pan…play meh pan
Ah want to play meh pan…play meh pan
Ah want to play meh pan…play meh pan
Ah want to play meh pan…play meh pan

Two sticks… in meh hand
Two sticks… in meh hand
Two sticks… in meh hand
Two sticks… in meh hand

Ah want to play meh pan…in de band
Ah want to play meh pan…in de band
Ah want to play meh pan…in de band
Ah want to play meh pan…in de band

Two sticks… in meh hand
Two sticks… in meh hand
Two sticks… in meh hand
Two sticks… in meh hand
