Single Pan Bands Preliminary Panorama 2011

Single pan bands in the East and Tobago will begin this year’s National Panorama competitions.

Some 20 steelbands in the East will face a panel of adjudicators at the Larry Gomes Stadium Car Park, Arima, while the five (5) Tobago bands will engage the attention of a separate panel at the Roxborough Complex, Roxborough, Tobago.

Both competitions will take place on Friday 04 February 2011. Starting time of the tow events is 7:00pm. Bands in the Eastern Region will draw for playing positions on Tuesday 01 February at CNMG during the First Up program.

Based on registration, Superblue (Austin Lyons) and Denyse Plummer are the choice of three bands each with Preacher (Barnett Henry) and Crazy (Edwin Ayoung) two each. Other favourites include The Mighty Trini (Robert Elias), Destra, Chris “Tambu” Herbert, Burning Flames, Lord Nelson (Robert Nelson) and The Baron (Timothy Watkins).

Five-time winner (2006 – 2010) La Horquetta Pan Groove will be defending the title with its arrangement of Shurwayne Winchester’s “Dead Or Alive”.

The Preliminary Round of the competition continues on Saturday 05 February 2011 with bands in the North. Thirty two (32) have signaled their intention to compete in this category. Their venue is Victoria Square, Park Street, Port of Spain. Showtime is 7:00 pm.

The next day, Sunday 06 February, will see ten (10) South/Central Region bands play their Panorama selection. They will perform at the Pleasantville Community Grounds, Pleasantville, San Fernando. This event is billed as “The Pleasantville Scrimmage – Pleasantville Community Centre- Pan Gayelle”. Starting time is 6:00 pm

Tickets for each of the shows are reasonably priced at $40.00.

Single Pan Steelband is defined as each member of the band plays one steelpan.

Coming out of this round, fourteen (14) bands from the North, eleven (11) from the East, four (4) from South/Central and three (3) from Tobago will proceed to the Semi-final stage.

The 2011 edition of Panorama is in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the steelband.
