Vocalist Kurt Allen began his Calypso career in 1983 when he sang
The Budget in the Junior Monarch Competition in Trinidad. In 1990 he was the first runner up in the “Stars of Tomorrow” competition which he subsequently won in 1992. The following year he was crowned “Young King,” a prestigious title.
In 1999 Allen made a significant switch to hardcore Soca and copped the Soca Monarch title with the uptempo
Dus’ Dem. This opened the door for him to become one of the front line singers for top Soca band Roy Cape All Stars.
Allen achieved one of the highest points of his career
by becoming the 2010 Calypso Monarch of Trinidad and Tobago with his political masterpiece,
Too Bright. Also for 2010 he performed the Earl Brooks/Alvin Daniell composition
Doh Meddle with Me which was played in Trinidad
& Tobago’s annual Panorama competition by south band Hatters Steel Orchestra. For 2011 he has vocalized
Pan Badjohn for the same composers - which will also be played by Hatters.
