LYRICS

Verse 1

We use to control de road
since nineteen sixty-three,
Talking ‘bout de road march,
de steel and brass fraternity.
Pan - Pan - Pan - Pan!
When de music start to change,
it was de deejays who take over.
Then the Road March change ‘round forever.
Yes it was Kitchener and Sparrow;
Tell dem ah say:- ‘Calypso Rose and Shadow!’
Yes all de way, it was pan on de road,
taking de load.
Pan on de road again, we say:
‘Pan on de road again!’

Chorus

Steelbands again – in de groove - pan on de road!
On wheels, we ready to move – pan on de road!
Coming for Band of the Year – pan on de road!
Let them know, we will be there – pan on de road!
It go be, pan on de road; we taking de load.
Coming down for de Carnival,
coming down for de Festival.
We coming, we coming, we coming,
we coming, we coming, we coming.
Pan on de road, we taking de load,
Pan on de road again!

Verse 2

When Kitchener sang: ‘No Pan,’
in nineteen eighty my friend,
He lamented for more money
for panmen and pan women.
Pan - Pan - Pan - Pan,
Was the Steelbands without a doubt
Dat had the people going crazy.
In dat era it was plain to see.
Yes it was Kitchener and Sparrow
All de bards of Calypso.
It was pan on de road; taking de load,
Pan on de road again we say, pan on de road again!

Chorus

We still have we Panorama

Pan - Pan - Pan - Pan,
SuperBlue was de las’ hero
With Soca Baptist he start jamming.
Now Machel and Bunji is de King.
But it was Kitchener and Sparrow,
With Rain-O-Rama and Jean and Dinah
Tings change up now as we know
Now Machel and Bunji on fire
It was pan on de road, taking de load.
Pan on de road again we say, pan on de road again!

Winston Scarborough aka “The Original DeFosto Himself”
Winston Scarborough
aka “The Original DeFosto Himself”

Winston Scarborough is considered by many to be one of the all-time great composers of steelband ‘panorama tunes.’

A performer artist himself, 2015 will mark the 37th year that Trinidad & Tobago’s Winston Scarborough (The Original DeFosto Himself - as he loves to be called) has been singing calypsos.  For him it was an uphill struggle to be recognized by the fraternity and public at large.

  Visit When Steel Talks

Abandoned by both his parents at the young age of 6 months, Scarborough was sent to the Tacarigua Orphanage in east Trinidad where he remained until age 17.  The experience in the orphanage would place an indelible stamp on him.

One of the most important aspects of DeFosto’s work as a calypso- nian is the tributes he has paid in song to many of Trinidad & Tobago’s cultural icons; the late Lord Kitchener (calypsonian Aldwyn Roberts) would be one such with whom people are most familiar.

The last several years continued to be fruitful for The Original DeFosto Himself, with the release of such hits as “Smooth Sailing;” “A Raging Storm;” “In She Rainorama” and  “Boogsie Sharpe.”  His most recent works included In De Minor and Pan In The Atmosphere.

For the 2015 steelband Panorama season “DeFosto” is back with Pan On De Road.
