“Asami” was composed
to panegyrize
Asami Nagakiya (1985–2016) - the
Japanese national and panist who
would regularly leave Japan and
travel to Trinidad to perform in the
Panorama. A qualified pan musician,
Asami displayed an unbending passion
for the steelpan - the national
instrument of T&T.
Derrick
Seales’ well-modulated voice is
prominent as he delivers
Asami -
accompanied with backup vocals by
Natalie Yorke. “Asami” was written
by Garvin Stewart, composed by
Barnett Henry and Leston Paul, and
produced by Leston Paul.
