Pantonic Looks To Repeat its Championship Ways Post-Bradley
(Keith Roberts takes over the reigns
of one of the most coveted steelband music arranging jobs in world)

The Late Great Master Arranger Clive Bradley on stage with Pantonic

New York - Regardless of the results of this year's 2006 New York steelband music panorama competition, reigning champions Pantonic Steel Orchestra have distinguished themselves as one of the greatest musical entities to grace the North American continent.

The Bradley/Pantonic hall of fame era is sealed in gold with five championships in seven years. However, more than the championships, it was the music that was created through that marriage [Bradley/Pantonic] and the classic performances that will be remembered, cherished and talked about for years to come.  Stranger, In My House, Ben Lion, Trini To The Bone and Action have all now moved into the steelband music classics area - an area that is reserved for a very select few - of which of course master arranger Clive Bradley was no stranger.

As pan aficionados and historians banter "were you there in 2001 for Stranger?" or "were you there in 2005 for the '1,2 finish' with Action and Darling?" -  2006 indeed brought massive change to the Pantonic camp.  For the first time in seven years Pantonic will take the stage without the great 'Bearded One'.  Affectionately known as Bradley's kids because of their youth, and many years they spent growing up under the master, Pantonic is not satisfied with success.  The organization expects to defend and retain its championship under Keith Roberts, their year-round stage-side arranger, who has taken over the reigns for this year's panorama.

Clive Bradley and Keith Roberts together

In spite of master Bradley's passing Pantonic will again take the stage with the 100 musician-limit which speaks volumes about their respect for the ability of Keith Roberts, and support by the organization and its players.  Last year the group pulled a rabbit out of the hat with their 1st place finish, when some prematurely predicted their era was over, and the band decimated, after an abnormal 12th place allotment in the 2004 competition (after placing 1st in 2003).

Look for the defending champions Pantonic to put on a great performance, in spite of what will have to be a special and extremely emotional night for the group.  They will mount a fierce and reverent defense in an effort to deliver the ultimate tribute - a championship title in Bradley's memory.
