Harmony, D'Radoes,
CASYM and Sonatas
At St. Matthews
New York- In the first meeting since
the hotly contested New York steelband panorama, four of New York's
steelbands came together to put on a late fall show. The
event was held at Harmony's home turf, St. Matthews
recreational facility in Brooklyn, New York. The enthusiastic
crowd was treated to the fast rising young Harmony Steel
Orchestra, who impressed the audience with their continued
musical advancement since this summer. Also on hand were
D'Radoes, CASYM and 2004 NY panorama champions
Sonatas.
Indeed, whatever was lost in the sonic imperfections of the hall was
made up in execution, talent, camaraderie, sprit, enthusiasm and fun
displayed by the performing musicians. The bands executed an
assortment of musical pieces showcasing their versatility and
ability to play both popular and difficult pieces of the soca,
reggae, gospel and rhythm and blues genres,
Harmony Steel got the ball rolling as they opened up with a flurry
of crowd pleasers that had the people rocking. They were soon
followed by D'Radoes who elicited a favorable crowd response with
their version of Dennis Edward's 'Don't Look Any Further'. Pan
soloist Ricardo Greenway performed live as special guest star with
his band. The audience was treated to a slew of hits from his
latest CD "Fun Time."
2004
Champions Sonatas came to the event at full force; sending the fans
home with a clear message as to their sincere intention to hold on
to the coveted title and impress
ive championship hardware that they displayed for all to see.
Fielding a large stage side they came dressed, prepared, armed and
delivered a musical performance that pleased their fans immensely.
Sonatas looked and sounded like it was ready to start the defense of
its crown immediately.
On
the night when they debuted their new CD
"D' Blueprint"
CASYM left no doubt about why they are one of the top performing
bands in the country, as their young but seasoned stage musicians
put on a performance that wowed the audience both visually and
acoustically. Dressed in their panorama blues the orchestra
let it be known with their almost flawless execution of their past
hits with new musical wrinkles they were in the house. Of
particular note was soloist, Khuent Rose, who brought the crowd to
their feet with his solo on CASYM's version of "Just The Two Of Us."
CASYM let it be known that there is always going to be a show when
they are present, so come prepared. --
