Eruption Steel Orchestra

Eruption Steel Orchestra, Inc. was founded in May of 2022. The non-profit youth organization is headed by Damany James Sr., who is a known arranger in the steel pan community. He works alongside the band’s managers Ms. Charmaine, Mr. Orlando and band captain Jayah Mederick. Eruption is a legacy band. Its main function is to continue the legacy that the late Martin “Dougie” Douglas once had for the steel pan.

The vision of Eruption Steel Orchestra, Inc. is to utilize the steelpan to build a community that connects student learning with the roots, culture and history of this exceptional instrument, while developing students’ fine motor, social and collaborative skills. The steelpan is the only instrument responsible for bringing the entire Caribbean together, providing opportunities to connect the young and elderly.

Since its inception, the steelpan allowed the Caribbean community to communicate and socialize with steelbands and organizations throughout the United States and around the world. We claim its birthright and growth, and the myriad advantages it has brought to our people and social structures in the Caribbean throughout its journey.
